No voltage violations in Slovo Park Phase Two

Metro waits for house fire victim's details to commence investigation.

In response to a query about newly-installed electricity meters causing sparks which lead to a house fire in Slovo Park Phase Two, the metro commented as follows:

According to the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe there were a series of events related to Slovo Park Phase Two.

This comes after the residents complained about a drop in voltage when the new meters were installed which they believe lead to the fire in Mooi Khozi’s (63) house in June.

Most of her belongings were destroyed in the fire.

Gadebe says a revenue improvement project was carried out in the area for the 2016/2017 financial year.

Before the commencement of work, all customers residing in the area were notified about the project and a community liaison officer was also appointed to ensure continuous communication during the project.

The main tasks included replacement of pole mounted meter boxes, service connection meters, protection circuit breakers and cable replacement work where necessary.

A random voltage testing was conducted on July 27, which is during peak time and no voltage violations were discovered.

“On the issue of Khozi’s house that caught fire, the energy department doesn’t have any information on this.

“Therefore we have to wait for the customer and property details so we may commence with our investigation,” he says.

One category of complaint received during the execution of the project related to meter replacement units which were addressed.

“Considering the above, one could, therefore, conclude that the metro service standards were followed,” he says.
