CPF urges motorists to help fight vehicle theft

Don’t park your car in a remote area, but rather where there is someone who can look after it.

The members of the CPF have released a statement urging motorists to work hand in glove with them to fight vehicle theft and hijackings.

Please do not leave your valuables, like laptops, cellphones, handbags, radios, shopping bags, cameras or money on the car seats while driving.

This rule also applies when you park your car in the parking area.

Criminals look through the window and see such valuables and the vehicle then becomes a smash-and-grab target.

When you are busy texting on your phone, make sure your window is closed because immediately when you stop at the red traffic light or stop sign the criminals will target the phone.

Car radios are the biggest attraction for vehicle theft, so always make sure that you remove the face of the radio before you leave your car.

Always close the windows and lock your car before you leave it.

Don’t park your car in a remote area, but rather where there is someone who can look after it.

Motorists make it very easy for criminals to steal out of motor vehicles if they are negligent.

Always be observant, alert and call for help when you suspect a crime in your area.

After opening a case of motor vehicle theft, don’t work with anyone other than the police to try to recover it.

If you see your stolen vehicle anywhere, inform the police immediately and give them the information.

Do not entertain any person who calls you and informs you that they recovered your vehicle and request that you deposit a sum of money so the car can be released.

This is an ongoing scam that the police are investigating; give the police the information about the caller to help track them down.
