The Ekurhuleni Metro says the Hyacinth which has plagued Dersley Dam for many months, has been removed.
Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro says a contractor started with the removal of the Hyacinth from the dam on May 15.
“The Hyacinth has now been removed from both the dam and the shoreline,” he says.
He adds: “However, the removal of some vegetation and spraying of herbicide will be done once the process to appoint a new service provider has been finalised.”
The contractor removed the Hyacinth over a period of six weeks, Gadebe said in a previous statement. He added that there is currently no method to prevent further growth of the bulbs.
