Four men arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

The police arrested four men who were found in possession of unlicensed fire arms on Saturday.

Five men aged between 25-39 have been arrested for being in possession of four illegal firearms on the N12 off-ramp on Saturday evening.

It is alleged that while the police were patrolling the area they saw a white Toyota Quantum with an interior light on.

They saw the driver but as the minibus neared they saw that there were four more passengers in the vehicle.

Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says the police suspected that there was something suspicious about the vehicle and immediately stopped it.

“The suspects were made to lie on the ground while the police searched the vehicle.

“They found two revolvers 38 calibres and a 9mm pistol.

“The men are all residents of Etwatwa,” he says.

Ramphora says the suspects failed to produce firearm license registration certificates to the police.

“The four men will appear before the Springs Magistrates Court soon,” he says.
