Springs crèche robbed by armed suspect and accomplices

Three men, one armed with a firearm, robbed a crèche in the Springs CBD last Monday.

The robbers pretended to submit forms at the crèche on the corner of Fourth Street and Seventh Avenue when one suspect pulled out a firearm.

SAPS spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the woman who was helping them with the forms was asked to lie down on the floor.

“The cleaner, who was also in the office, was instructed to hand over the money, but she didn’t know where the money was kept,” he says.

The suspects then asked for the keys to the safe but they found the safe to be empty.

“The suspect then took a piggy box with an amount of R700, a cell phone, DVD player, tied up the two victims’ hands with sellotape and left the scene,” says Ramphora.

The vehicle in which the suspects fled the scene is not known to the victims.

“We will have a look at the video footage which might assist the detectives in their investigation to catch the perpetrators,” says Ramphora.
