Suspected of faking hijack, fire

Man is arrested at work for fraud and perjury.

A 36-year-old Bakerton resident man was arrested for fraud and perjury at his workplace in the CBD on Friday.

The arrest took place at 4.30pm, after the police discovered the man allegedly faked the hijacking and burning of his car to collect an insurance payout.

SAPS spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says they arrested the man on charges of fraud and perjury.

“He opened a case of hijacking on October 16, 2016. Afterwards, he devised a plan to have his vehicle burned because the insurance didn’t want to pay out when he opened the case of hijacking,” he says.

The suspect will appear in court soon.
