SAPS warning: Beware of robbers claiming to be injured

Springs police urge residents to refrain from attending to injured people lying in front of their gates.

SAPS spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says robbers have a new modus operandi where one of them pretends to be seriously injured.

“The so-called injured person lies down in front of your gate and waits patiently until someone notices him,” he says.

As soon as someone from the house opens the gate to see to the “patient” his accomplices strike.

This warning follows two cases reported over the past week where robbers used this trick to rob houses.

Ramphora urges residents not to try and help these so-called injured people, but rather to call the police or an ambulance.

“The police or paramedics will verify if this person is injured or not,” says Ramphora.
