Community members in Edenvale and Bedfordview are rallying behind those left homeless as a result of the Knysna fires.
Donations of bottled water, energy drinks, food, blankets and clothing can be dropped off at the NEWS‘ office in Greenstone Crescent Shopping Centre TODAY.
Residents can also donate dog and cat food.
Nic Bruchhausen, an Edenvale resident, will drive to Knysna either later this afternoon or tomorrow morning to assist with firefighting efforts in the area.
He will be taking all donations delivered to the NEWS’ offices.

“Donations for residents evacuated from their homes and firefighters working to control the blaze will be delivered to various evacuation points identified,” Bruchhausen said.
“Firefighters working around the clock to control the blaze will also benefit from the donations,” he said
The NEWS’ offices are situated in Greenstone Crescent Shopping Centre (The Checkers centre opposite Greenstone Shopping Centre). Shop 18A, next to Body Flo Gym. The offices will be open until 6.30pm/7pm for donation drop-offs.
Knysna is experiencing gale force winds and fires raging in many areas, reports the Knysna-Plett Herald.
Knysna fire chief, Clinton Manuel, has confirmed the worst: the fires in Knysna are “out of control” and “there is a slim chance of stopping them”.
Knysna residents from every part of town are taking shelter from the storm near the water and at the Knysna Yacht Club.
Manuel said that the fire was spreading “rapidly due to a fast wind and that people are being evacuated to safe areas within town.”
Areas affected and evacuated, as confirmed by Manuel, are Brenton, Belvidere, Welbedaght, Eastford, Green Pastures and Knysna Heights.
