Resident Melinda Botha says the sewage was running down the street for at least a week.
When the residents saw metro workers at the pump station, they thought the problem would soon be over.
However, Botha claims, the metro found a short-term solution and dug a trench to redirect the sewage into the Dersley Dam.
“It is shocking, as there are people catching fish in the dam for a living,” she says.
According to Anita Greeff, from Dersley, the sewage was flowing strongly down the road for three days.
“I reported the matter and when the metro arrived it shocked me to my bones to see what they had done,” she says.
The trench was allegedly dug on a Friday and left until the Monday before the metro came to fix the cause of the leak.
Greeff says they didn’t clean up the sewage afterwards but left the debris to dry by itself.
“Dry toilet paper is still visible when you drive past.
“What effect this will have on the dam I don’t know, but what the metro has done as a short-term solution is unacceptable,“ says Greeff.
The metro had not responded to the Addie’s questions, sent last week, by the time of publishing.
