Tekkie Tax Day supported by Epilepsy

Tekkie Tax Day with a twist.

Epilepsy South Africa, Daggafontein Centre, marched to Casseldale to celebrate Tekkie Tax Day on Thursday.

Centre manager Audrey Mtimkhulu says they wanted to do something different this year and walked from the centre to Clydesdale Road, towards the Clydesdale circle.

“I approached the supermarket in Clydesdale Road to ask if we could use their parking area as a gathering place for singing and dancing.

“The manager Sipho Mzane offered to welcome the residents and to also provide them with refreshments,” she says.

The procession left the centre at 11am and moved to the open parking area at the supermarket.

They were welcomed by Sipho and his assistant manager Christina Ndlovu.

“Singing and dancing formed part of the fun while they were walking and when they arrived at the parking area,” says Audrey.

Sipho also decided to donate groceries to the centre, which were accepted by residents, personnel and the manager.

The group showed their appreciation by singing ‘Ons sê baie dankie’.

National Tekkie Tax Day is celebrated all over South Africa when welfare organisations sell colourful shoelaces, T-shirts and stickers.

The proceeds are sent to Tekkie Tax organisers, who, in October, will send a portion of the proceeds to the relevant organisations who participated.

“The roof of the building needs repairs and we also plan on painting the outside walls of the entire centre,” says Audrey.

Residents all feel they are obliged to contribute to Tekkie Tax, so that the Daggafontein Centre can benefit from the proceeds.

Sipho says although it was short notice, he still felt the need to support.
