SPRINGS: Sex slave den bust in CBD

Five girls, including a KwaThema resident, rescued from human trafficking.

Springs police arrested a 42-year-old man for human trafficking in Eight Street, CBD on Friday (May 19).

After his arrest he was taken to the Springs police cells where he will remain until his first court appearance.

It is expected that he will be charged with human trafficking, as well as possession of drugs and pornographic material.

Maj Gen Girly Mbele, Ekurhuleni East Cluster commander, says the arrest took place after the police received a tip-off from the community about young girls being kept in the house as sex slaves.

The quick reaction of the sector police led to the arrest of the suspect.

Police found five young girls, aged between 14 and 19 years old, in the house as well as drugs and pornographic material.

“Four of the girls come from Balfour in Mpumalanga and one is from KwaThema,” says Mbele.

The teenagers were taken to Life Springs Parkland Hospital for medical treatment and then to Peacehaven, a place of safety.

Capt Johannes Ramphora says the suspect, who is from Nigeria, will appear in court soon.
