Mike Vosloo lives with emptiness

The death of Mundolene Vosloo is still fresh in the memory of her father Mike Vosloo and her two siblings.

Hoërskool Hugenote pupil Mundolene Vosloo, aged 17, died on October 5, while the family was on holiday in Mauritius.

The family of five, including Mundolene’s father Mike Vosloo (47) and two brothers, arrived in Mauritius on October 4 and was due back in South Africa on October 11.

However, their holiday was cut short when an argument with her stepmother Marietjie Vosloo, allegedly ended the teenager’s life.

Marietjie was arrested on October 5 and remains in prison in Mauritius.

Mike says his two sons, aged 12 and 15, are currently living with him in KwaZulu-Natal.

He says they are doing well under the circumstances, but miss their sister terribly.

“I still cry daily and the pain and hurt doesn’t get less; in fact, it becomes worse daily.

“All the memories, things she said, her favourite songs, movies, and playing golf makes it worse,” says Mike.

All of this makes him think of his darling daughter.

“I miss her more every day and holidays without her are just not the same anymore,” he says.

He says there is an indescribable emptiness within him which will never be filled.

“My youngest son misses his mother and I feel so sorry for him.

“All the changes and adjustments are difficult to deal with for such a young child,” says Mike.

However, he is extremely proud of both his sons and the fact that they are living with him makes him very happy.

“I love them with all my heart,” says Mike.
