Police curb crime one arrest at a time

Owner finds his cellphone

SAPS arrested three suspects for theft of a motor vehicle in Third Street, CBD last Thursday.

On Wednesday at 11.45pm, a man was sitting in his vehicle when a women opened the passenger door, took his cellphone and fled on foot.

Capt Johannes Ramphora SAPS spokesman says the man and his brother ran after the woman but they were stopped by a man, preventing them from entering the house the woman disappeared into.

“The men reported the incident to the police who went to the house where they arrested the three suspects, aged between 18 and 27 years,” says Ramphora.

He says the cellphone was returned to its owner.

The suspects will appear in court soon.

Man arrested for perjury

A man was wrongfully arrested by the police at 6am, in Oranjehof, on Saturday.

SAPS spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the 30-year-old man was accused of house robbery.

“After thorough investigation we found there was no house robbery,” says Ramphora.

The accused was released from custody and the police arrested a 34-year-old man for perjury at 11am on Saturday.

Ramphora says the accused will appear in court soon.
