SAPS warning: Armed suspects pretending to sell clothing rob learners

Springs police are warning the community, in particular schools, to be aware of the modus operandi of a group of criminals operating outside schools.

This comes after three incidents were recently reported in which school children were robbed in Selcourt.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the suspects pretend to be selling clothes.

“They are encouraging learners to come and look at the clothing but children should not approach these criminals,” he advises.

Ramphora says the female suspect, who has short dreadlocks and is dark in complexion, asks learners to help her pack the clothes according to size and colours and then two men join her and rob the children of their cellphones, tablets or iPads.

The suspects are armed with knives.

The incidents have occurred in the morning before school starts.
