Robbers chase tuck shop owner

A tuck shop in Slovo Park was robbed by five suspects on Tuesday.

The robbery took place in Durban Drive at 7pm, while the owner was still in the shop.

Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the owner and his friend noticed the five suspects standing outside the shop asking if he had crisps in stock.

The owner says two of the suspects entered the shop and pointed their firearms at them.

Ramphora says the owner tried to escape and was grabbed by his collar by the other three suspects but he managed to escape again and ran into the alleyway next to his tuck shop.

“The robbers gave chase but the owner got away,” he says.

The owner’s friend managed to escape to the bedroom and pressed the panic button.

Ramphora says the two armed suspects grabbed the airtime machine, R3 000 in cash, two cartons of cigarettes and some grocery items on the shelves.

All five suspects fled the scene on foot.
