Metro plan to solve water woes in Dal Fouche

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says the water problem was caused by the motor, which was damaged on April 7.

In response to ‘No end to water woes in Dal Fouche’ the metro commented as follows:

It was a replacement motor which the metro had installed while the other motor was removed to be repaired and wasn’t ready for delivery.

“As soon as we became aware of the situation, the matter was reported to Erwat who are contracted to do both maintenance and repairs to our pump stations.

“We then provided water tankers to the community for three days while they were without water,” says Gadebe.

He says from the time the problem started they had to source a motor of the exact same size and configuration as the one that broke.

As a last option the metro had to purchase a new motor.

“Once it was installed we started pumping water around 7.30am on April 9,” he says.

Gadebe says there will be planned shutdown periods in order to effect sustainable repairs to the pump stations to curb these water supply interruptions to the community.

“This will be communicated to residents closer to the time,” he says.
