Springs, Daveyton and Benoni rapist gets half a century behind bars

Andile Mabodla (49) was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment in the Springs Regional Court on five counts of rape, last Wednesday.

Ekurhuleni East Cluster commander Maj Gen Girly Mbele says the sentencing came after thorough investigation done by Det Sgt Tebogo Lephoto.

“Mabodla has been raping women for the past four years, from 2012 to 2016, in Springs, Daveyton and Benoni,” says Mbele.

She says his modus operandi was to approach the women, tell them his friend is looking for a helper and once they show interest, he promised to take them to this friend.

“On the way, Mabodla would take the victim to an open field where he threatened them with a knife and instructed them not to scream, while he raped them,” she says.

His youngest victim was 20-years-old.
