Daggafontein Extension Two has been without street lights for the past two years, and the metro has not responded to the query that was sent on January 6.
According to Struisbult resident Mandla Ntshangase he reported the faulty street lights to the metro’s electricity department in First Avenue, CBD on December 23.

“They promised they will come and fix the lights first thing in January,“ he says.
He says he saw the electrical department’s maintenance truck passing some time ago, but the lights are still not working.
“I reported the matter again on March 18 and was given a reference number, but they still haven’t come to fix the lights,“ he says.
What concerns Ntsangase is that they are at risk for house break-ins in the area because of the darkness.
In Dersley there are more than 198 street lights that are not working.
Resident Marie Buchner says it is pointless reporting the lights as nothing is being done by the metro to fix it.
Fifth Avenue, CBD has been in darkness for more than two years.
Petersfield resident Ernst de Wet complained about the street lights in Nigel Road, Springs West Road, Plantation Road as well as in east Geduld Road.

“It is the metro’s responsibility to maintain and repair all street lights and yet there is a lack of maintenance on their part,“ he says.
He is also concerned about possible danger lurking in the dark streets where people wait for their transport.
“Why is the metro not sending out people to establish how many street lights are not working.
“At least then they will be able to plan and budget to have the lights fixed,“ says de Wet.
Businessman Craig Seath says Main Reef Road is dark at night.
“Even if the police do routine patrols they won’t be able to see the entrance to some of the businesses due to the lack of street lights,” he says.
The main entrances into Springs are also in total darkness including Welgedacht Road, Tonk Meter Way, Paul Kruger Highway, Nigel Road and Wit Road.
There are many more individual street lights not working all over Springs which have all been reported to the metro.
Despite sending several queries to the metro, no comment was received at the time of going to print.
