Gallery showcases human rights

The Springs Art Gallery, located on the corner of Fifth Street and Sixth Avenue, held an art exhibition on Saturday.

Calling on art lovers to commemorate national Human Rights Day, which was on March 21, the Ekurhuleni Metro hosted the exhibition to reflect on and affirm basic human rights under the theme ‘Beyond Teaching’.

The exhibition was made up of art and photographs created by art students from Ekurhuleni’s Art Development School, Art as Healing Classes and the Photography Projects.

Khensane Banda (14) and Cleopatra Titi (13), from the Endulweni Primary School, in Tembisa, had fun at the Springs Art Gallery’s art exhibition, on Saturday, in honour of Human Rights Day.

Visitors were treated to pieces of art that were expressed through the different artists’ emotions, views and comprehension of various situations.

The day’s programme included live music performances by the Kwatsaduza Jazz Orchestra, fashion features and a showcase of fun-filled art activities for children, including painting, drawing and drumming.

The metro arranged a photo booth with professional photographers at the gallery for visitors to enjoy.

Exhibition ‘Beyond Teaching’ is open and free of charge to the public until tonmorrow (Wednesday).

The Springs Art Gallery is open, free of charge, weekdays from 8am to 4.30pm, Saturdays from 8am to noon and closed on Sundays and public holidays.
