Get that reference number!

Numerous Springs residents have turned to their local newspaper for assistance after attempting to log complaints with the Ekurhuleni Metro's call centre.

When residents want to address service delivery or maintenance complaints, they should always log them at the metro’s call centre, after which they will be given a reference number so they can track their complaint.

The correct procedure for logging a complaint is:

• Contact 0860 543 000.

• State your name, address and complaint.

• If the operator has questions, respond in detail.

• Receive your reference number.

• Your complaint is logged. You can end the call.

However, many residents have turned to the Addie, stating that the operator allegedly gives them different numbers to call to log the complaint.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro, says the call centre operates on a 24/7 basis.

“Every customer who calls into the call centre is entitled to a reference number and needs to insist on receiving it,” he says.

“If it happens that a customer is given a telephone number, we would appreciate it if you can make us aware of it so that we can do further investigations.”

He adds that the metro apologises for any inconvenience caused.
