N17 Hospital promotes healthy lifestyle

Netcare N17 Hospital hosted a Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Day on Wednesday.

This special free event was held to encourage people to live healthy lifestyles and feel great.

The awareness day was held by the N17 Hospital in partnership with two laboratories, audiologists, a slimming group and various infection protection companies.

Hospital manager Andries Joubert says they also offered free blood pressure and blood sugar tests.

“Our focus is to inform the community to not only to eat healthier but also have regular health check-ups done.

“We also want to give something back to the local community by hosting these Wellness Days” he says.

Different stalls where available where experts explained the hygiene procedures of effective sanitising of fingers, hands and surfaces in a hospital environment.

Joubert says the same principles of hand hygiene can also be applied at home to help prevent the spreading of germs, especially with the winter months and colds and flu looming in the not-so-distant future.

The event was held between 9am and noon and free samples of instant hand sanitisers and pens were handed out to the visitors.

Nigel residents Martie Lezar (74) and her friend Henriëtta Heydenrych found the free basic hearing assessments quite interesting.

“It is wonderful to know that the hospital offers free services to those who don’t have medical aids,” says Martie.

Margaret Daneman from Petersfield Extension says the services rendered on the day was excellent and well organised.

Local laboratory representatives Emarie Vermaak and Hanneli Binneman say people enjoy the freebies.

“It is simple things that give you a feeling of well-being,” says Emarie.
