Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says the fence is being erected for safety and security purposes.
He explains this was done on instructions given by the Ekurhuleni mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, after he visited Springs in November.
“Tenders to lease the former O’Hagan’s Pub and Grill building and parking area will be invited as soon as possible after the council has considered a report pertaining to the proposed lease of the said facility,” says Gadebe.

Local business owner Karen Tocher expressed her gratitude for the metro’s quick response.
This initiative was made possible together with the Eastern Gauteng Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“It already looks stunning and I am sure it will curb illegal dumping as well as prostitution,” she says.
Tocher and her Square-up and Clean-up team will keep looking after the area by maintaining the garden.

They are going to clean the flowerbeds and plant new flowers as soon as possible after the completion of the fence.
“We plan on erecting advertising boards on the corner of Eighth Street and Zig Zag Road and the money raised will go towards the clean-up campaign,” says Tocher.
