Illegal mining operation leads to 11 arrests

During an operation conducted against illegal mining in Fulcrum, the Springs police arrested 11 people on Thursday February 9.

Between 10am and 2pm four suspects were arrested for illegal mining and seven for being illegal immigrants.

They are between 21 and 30 years of age.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the aim of the operation was to curb illegal mining.

The four suspects, aged between 30 and 45 years, were taken to the police cells and will appear in court soon.

“The seven illegal immigrants will be taken to Lindelani Detention Centre in Krugersdorp soon,” says Ramphora.
