Matric dress of your dream

Most Grade 12 learners are already planning their outfits for this year's matric farewell, but many of them are concerned about the financial implications of putting together their attire.

“Although there are many teenagers who might think it would just be a dream, their financial concern should not dampen their enthusiasm, as we can help them make this dream come true,” says Linda Broodryk, a Springs business owner.

She recently took over Diva for a Night, a charity project which helps Grade 12 learners who cannot afford the glitz and glamour of their matric farewell.

“I believe everyone needs to shine at this important event,” says Linda.

The project was started by Springs resident Gigi Kruger in 2014, but due to unforeseen circumstances she handed over all the stock to Linda in 2016.

Linda says she has been helping those who cannot afford their matric farewell for quite some time, but she was still overwhelmed when Gigi approached her to take over the charity project.

“A matric farewell is a costly affair, but it doesn’t have to be.

“The dresses we lend to the girls are free of charge, but any donations that we receive go towards restoration and upkeep of the clothes,” she says.

Linda feels students should enjoy their last school year, concentrate on their studies and leave the matric farewell worries to her.

Diva for a Night can help these learners not only with a dress or suit, but also with all the necessary accessories, shoes, make-up, hair and nails.

“All the students and their parents have to do is contact us for assistance,” she says.

Linda is proud to say that, over the past few years, she has also helped many brides-to-be with a dress and the necessary accessories.

“We also make dresses according to the taste of the brides or the matric girls,” she says.

Diva for a Night has helped numerous people in the past, and Linda hopes they will be able to continue doing so in the future.

This invitation is also open to the Grade 12 boys and bridegrooms-to-be.

“We can help them with men’s shoes, suits, shirts and ties,” says Linda.
