Refuse removal woes continues

Following numerous reports about continuous poor refuse removal services in Strubenvale, the metro has given comment.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe says they recently purchased new vehicles but have experienced several breakdowns of various natures.

“This resulted in backlogs which resulted in delays in the scheduled refuse collections,” he says.

He says they cannot predict breakdowns of the vehicles, but they are working on ensuring that services are rendered without interruption.

“If the refuse is not collected on the scheduled day, we work on collecting it the next day,” says Gadebe.

However, Strubenvale residents feel the promises made by the metro to remove the black bags that don’t fit into the wheelie bin are far-fetched.

“At one house there will be only three black bags next to the wheelie bin whereas at another house there will be more,” says Johan Perkins.

He questions the motives of waste management, as they sometimes leave some of the black bags uncollected.

As previously stated by Gadebe, residents should report their complaints to the call centre number or the Ekurhuleni Waste Management office in Springs on 011 999 8497 or 011 999 8425.
