Man shot while fighting off suspects

A brave 61-year-old resident from Grunberger Street, Selcourt, was shot in the leg after he kicked one of the two suspects who broke into his house, on Thursday.

The resident was watching television in his bedroom at 9pm while his wife was sleeping, when two suspects entered their room.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, SAPS spokesman, one of the suspects was armed with a firearm.

The armed suspect allegedly instructed the resident to keep quiet.

“The resident decided to kick the one suspect, which led to the armed suspect shooting the resident in his left leg,” says Ramphora.

There was only a cellphone missing from the bedroom.

Ramphora says when the police arrived on the scene, they found the resident, who explained what happened.

The two suspects gained entry to the house through an open window on the first floor.

“The resident was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment,” says Ramphora.
