Dersley resident Bertus Thiart is of the opinion that the metro’s grass cutting process is too slow.
He complains about the long grass in Dersley which hasn’t been cut for at least three months and is approximately 1m high in some areas.
“I am not sure if the metro is responsible for the cutting of the grass or whether they make use of contractors to get the job done,” he says.

Whatever the case may be, Thiart says it is unacceptable that nothing has been done for the past three months.
Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin says the much needed rain is aggravating the problem all over Springs.
“I have spoken to the metro stating that the long grass contributes to crime and infestation of rodents and snakes,” he says.
He says they have assured him they are busy cutting the grass and have started in some areas in December already.

However, Sheodin says he has not seen evidence of any grass cutting around Dersley and Eastvale.
“It is a very slow process but it seems like the contractor does not have sufficient tractors and other equipment to carry out the task.
He promised to do follow-ups on the situation with the relevant departments as he, Sheodin, too, is inundated with complaints on a daily basis.
According to metro spokesman Themba Gadebe they started cutting the grass in the Dersley area during the first week of December.
He says the contractor started cutting the grass again on Wednesday according to their January schedule.
“All issues raised will be addressed,” he says.
