Local dance studio will take 12 students to the Nationals

Three dancers from Dance Directions, in Petersfield, recently received special awards at the South African Dance School Championships, in Pretoria.

Ayden Janse van Rensburg (13) received a Colourful Character with marvellous potential award, the Miss Attitude award went to Amy-Jane Labuschagne (17) for wonderful energy and confidence and Sintuche Ross (12) received an award for Powerful Performance.

The following students received medals in various categories:

Directions’ teacher Mariska Wolmarans and choreographer Linda Stapelberg received high silver in open duo.

Michelle Fourie (14) received high silver in disco hip hop and contemporary and silver in open jazz and hip hop duo.

A high silver in jazz and silver in contemporary and hip hop made Amy-Jane Labuschagne (17) proud.

Ayden Janse van Rensburg (13) received gold in hip hop and jazz while Melinde Shanahan (15) received gold in hip hop and silver and high silver in hip hop duo.

Paige Marais (9) received a high silver in jazz and a silver in contemporary, while Dawsyn Janse van Rensburg (6) received a high silver in hip hop duo.

Kara Steyn (5) was awarded a high silver in hip hop duo and silver in the open dance category.

Luné Ras (6) received silver in disco and jazz while Sintuché Ross (12) received a high bronze in hip hop duo and a gold in hip hop.

Jualize Alberts (12) achieved a high silver and high bronze in hip hop.

Roan Steenkamp (15) received a high silver in hip hop and a silver in hip hop duo.

All dancers who received high silver and gold will compete in the National Championships, in Pretoria, in April.

Mariska says she is proud of her students who all did exceptionally well.
