WATCH: Springs SPCA starts smiling again

The Springs SPCA is smiling because of a surprise gift they received from a local family who revamped a section of the puppy kennels and also painted a portion of the walls on the property.

The ball started rolling, when 19-year-old Melissa Dominguez had to complete a charity project for the design school she attends.

Her older sister, Cristina, jumped in and got the whole family on board by challenging the companies they own or work for to sponsor towards the fund-raising initiative.

“We chose the SPCA because we all love dogs and because they really needed the assistance,” says Cristina.

The sisters managed to pay the bill of R12 000 for the materials and R9 500 for the paint and painter, while a week’s labour was provided free of charge by the company which Cristina’s boyfriend works for.

Melissa sold boerewors rolls and watermelon at her college for funds, and both sisters raffled off vouchers, but the majority of the funds came from a Springsgate grocery store owned by their parents.

“Everything looks beautiful and were very grateful towards the family for what they have done for the animals,” says SPCA fundraiser Debbie Miller.

Although this project was a big help, the SPCA is still in dire need of financial assistance in order to keep their doors open.
