Hijackers strike when woman stops to inspect tyres

Hijackers assault women before driving off in her car.

A blue Jeep Cherokee was hijacked on Grootvlei Road, Grootvlei on Sunday and its owner assaulted.

The driver of the vehicle was stopped, by the driver of a black Citi Golf at 2.10pm.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the driver of the Jeep claims the four occupants of the Citi Golf pointed out, while driving past, that she had a flat tyre.

As soon as the driver of the Jeep stopped, she checked all the tyres, but was surprised when she was approached by the occupants of the Citi Golf.

Ramphora says the suspects pushed the woman and she fell to the ground.

Two of the suspects got into the Jeep and drove away.

They were followed by the Citi Golf.

“Inside the vehicle, was the woman’s cellphone and her wallet containing an undisclosed amount of cash,” says Ramphora.

SAPS are investigating a hijacking case.
