Esda residents celebrate early Christmas

Citizens from Esda Frail Care made their way to the newly built Esda Nursing Education Institution (ENEI) hall, on the premises in New State Area, for their annual festive Christmas lunch, on Thursday.

Petro Burr-Dixon, Esda administrator, invited about 80 people, including the retirement village residents, to join them in celebrating an early Christmas, with lunch.

The purpose of the function is for the staff to thank the residents for their love and support throughout the year.

Festivities began with a joyful selection of songs in Afrikaans and English, enthusiastically performed by Pierre du Preez.

Most of the residents knew the lyrics of the Golden Oldies and sang along.

“I have a very satisfying job at Esda and the end result, seeing the guests enjoy themselves, makes it all the more worthwhile,” Burr-Dixon says.

Tienie Viviers (88), who has been a retirement village resident for 20 years, frail care Chaplain Willie Sales (78) and his wife Petro Sales (76), Yolanda Els principal of Esda Nursing Education Institution and her staff were among the guests.

Tienie says she is grateful for what everyone has done and that she had a lovely time.

Annemarie Olive, Esda kitchen manager, and her staff treated the guests to a delicious three-course lunch, including apple pie with custard for desert.

Some gifts were given out to the guests as well.
