Armed robbers pounce on liquor store

Six armed suspects robbed a liquor store in Cloverfield Road, Dersley and drove off with a customer's vehicle on Sunday.

The suspects entered the store at 2.50pm, all armed with firearms, and demanded everyone inside the store to lie down on the floor.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the suspects took an undisclosed amount of money.

One of the suspects approached a customer and ordered him to hand over the keys to his vehicle.

“The suspects fled the scene in the customer’s vehicle and a white bakkie parked across the road from the liquor store at the time of the robbery,” says Ramphora.

A case of hijacking was opened at the police station.
