Springs businessman accused of raping boy (14)

A prominent Springs businessman is facing rape charges after he allegedly raped a 14-year-old boy on June 4.

The 57-year-old man briefly appeared in the Bornkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on November 22 when the matter was postponed.

The incident allegedly took place while the accused and the boy were attending the same wedding in Bronkhorstspruit.

According to the clerk of the court Thokozile Sekati, the accused hasn’t been asked to plea.
The case was postponed to January 13 for further investigation.

The accused was arrested at his house in Springs on July 16 and was taken to the cells at the Welbekend Police Station.

Sekati says despite the seriousness of the charges, the accused was granted bail of R5 000 on the day of his arrest.

“His lawyer was present during the bail application which was done outside of court,” she says.
The teenager has not testified yet.

“The minor will be summonsed with a subpoena to appear in court and will testify in camera,” says Sekati

When contacted by the Addie, the accused commented: “This is an unpleasant situation but we need to let the case run its course in court.”

While the identity of both the accused and the victim are known to the Addie, and we have had contact with both parties, we cannot identify either person at this juncture to protect the teenager.
