SAPS arrest murder suspect in Daggafontein

Lekupe Midisane (50) was shot and killed by two suspects at Daggafontein Informal Settlement last Thursday.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the deceased and his friend parked their silver Toyota Corolla next to the informal settlement.

Two unknown armed men approached and started shooting at them.

Midisane drove off across the road and over the railway line, where the vehicle came to a standstill.

Ramphora says the two suspects followed on foot and shot the deceased twice in the neck, took an undisclosed amount of cash from the vehicle and fled.

Ramphora says police took a statement from the passenger of the Toyota who was still sitting in the vehicle after the shooting.

A SAPS sector vehicle gave chase after they received information from the community on a suspicious-looking white Mazda 323.

“The driver stopped the vehicle and the passenger ran away, however, we managed to arrest the driver (age unknown),” says Ramphora.

Paramedics were called to the scene and declared Midisane dead on the scene.

Both vehicles, the Toyota and Mazda, were taken to the police station.

Ramphora says the suspect will appear in court soon.
