R1 000 bail for woman who kidnapped nine-month-old baby

A Springs woman (39), accused of kidnapping a nine-month-old baby, was granted bail in the Springs Regional Court, last Wednesday.

Springs police arrested the woman on the evening of November 11 and charged her with kidnapping, purgery and defeating the ends of justice.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the accused allegedly removed the baby from a house in Eastvale.

The accused allegedly called the baby’s grandmother, who found her daughter (age unknown) and granddaughter (2) in the house.

“The grandmother looked for the baby, but couldn’t find him, and, upon further investigation, it was suspected that her daughter had been drugged,” says Ramphora.

When the police arrived on the scene they found an empty medicine bottle on the floor.
