Proud moment for Tamil school learners

Springs Tamil School learners accomplished a 100% pass rate with general distinctions, in the recent South African National Tamil School Exams.

The Bhairavi Sungum of Springs Tamil School wrote the exams compiled by the South African Tamil Federation’s Education Desk, administered by Dr Bull Murugan.

“It’s always a pleasure to test these children in the Sungum – and to note that the lowest mark achieved was 90%.

“I would like to compliment the administrators, teacher and students of the Sungum on these sterling results,” says Murugan.

Kesavan Pillay, chairman of the Bhairavi Sungum of Springs, says they are passionate about the Tamil language and culture.

Kesavan also wrote the Tamil school exams, together with the Sungum’s secretary Poovershree Pillay; both achieving 100%.

“Our gratitude and accolades go to our teacher, Saranam Naicker, who’s always produced the best results up to matric.

They’re also grateful for the financial assistance of Dr Mickey Chetty, of the International Movement of Tamil Culture.

The following learners each received 100%:

Kesavan Pillay (Grade Two) and his wife Poovershree Pillay (Grade Three); Dinera Govender (Grade Eight), Shekinah Govender (Grade Eight), Kaley Chetty (Grade two), Tharun Pillay (Grade One), Shanitha Govender (Grade two) and Mayuri Pillay (Grade Four).

Thesighan Padiachy (Grade Six), Kumeshnie Kasaven (Grade Four) and the youngest learner in the school, Jetania Naidoo (Grade Four), all obtained 99%.

Keyoran Naidoo (Grade Six), Siveshen Singh (Grade Seven) and Vareshen Pather (Grade Seven) all obtained 98%.

Kesavan says the Bhairavi Sungum of Springs is committed to uplifting the Hindu language and culture and urges fellow members of Indian communities to get involved in maintaining with passion, the language of their descendants, be it Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil or Telugu.
