Women applaud policemen’s quick reaction

Dal Fouche resident Charmaine Lynch (42) was overwhelmed by the positive action of two policemen during a robbery in First Street, CBD on Thursday.

“They are indeed worthy of wearing the police uniform,” she says.

It was two Samaritans Sgt Mpho Dire and Cst Tinyiko Baloyi who came to the two women, Lynch and her daughter Larocha-Leigh Olivier’s rescue and arrested one of the suspects for common robbery and possession of stolen property.

Lynch stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of First Street and Fifth Avenue, CBD when two unknown men approached her vehicle.

“One of the men was on the driver’s side trying to distract me, while the other suspect grabbed Larocha-Leigh’s tablet.

“My daughter held on to the tablet for dear life, but the suspect was just so much stronger and ran off with the tablet,” says Lynch.

With her daughter being traumatised, they drove straight home.

“Larocha-Leigh was crying hysterically when we arrived home,” says Lynch.

“I just wanted my tablet back,” Olivier says.

The two policemen allegedly witnessed the robbery and followed the two suspects.

Baloyi allegedly chased the suspects on foot and managed to arrest one of them.

The other suspect got away.

Lynch says: “Their good deed was the highlight of our week.”

“It is good to know there are still policemen out there who care enough for the community to assist them in a minor case such as the robbery of a tablet,” says Lynch.

Baloyi and Dire allegedly found the family’s contact details on the tablet after they arrested the suspect.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, confirms the two policemen arrested a suspect for robbery.
