Four minors arrested for Veritas headboy’s alleged murder remain at place of safety

The four minors and two adults who stand accused of the murder of Abram Sibeko, the Veritas headboy, will appear in the Springs Regional Court today (Monday).

Following an intensive search operation by the Ekurhuleni East Trio Task team and the SAPS Crime Prevention members, the four minors were arrested in Barcelona, KwaThema on October 6.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the arrest of the minors came after the police followed up on information they received from the community.

The four minors, aged between 16 and 17, appeared in camera in the presence of their parents, social workers and a probation officer on October 24.

“These two suspects are accused of business robbery and are linked to the murder of Sibeko,” says Ramphora.

Ramphora says the deceased was waiting for public transport to his house in Dunnotar on September 29, when he was allegedly approached by the suspects.

According to Ramphora, the suspects demanded the deceased to hand over his cellphone and cricket bag and when he refused, one of the minors stabbed him in the chest.

The four minors ran away with the stolen goods.

Sibeko’s body was found by a community member near the railway line in Selection Park on September 30.

“The deceased was still wearing his school uniform,” says Ramphora.

SAPS confiscated the knife allegedly used to stab the deceased.

The four minors remain in a place of safety while the duo has been granted bail of R1 000 each.
