Children’s charity lunch

A local Springs resident spoiled over twenty underprivileged children by taking them to a local restaurant on Saturday.

For the seventh year in a row, local do-gooder and frequent charity supporter and event organiser Sanet Joubert, treated 25 less fortunate children to a lunch at a local restaurant on Saturday.

“I have a little boy here today who has never been to a restaurant before, who didn’t know what to do with the menu,” she says with tears in her eyes. Although she cherishes each of the many charity events that she’s part of, this one is particularly close to her heart.

“To make them feel important and special I let them choose whatever they want from the menu,” Sanet says.

Everyone also enjoyed a milkshake, a Cookie Monster cupcakes decorated by Sanet’s daughter, Karien Labuschagne, and a slice of ice-cream cake, which was donated by the restaurant.

All the children also received a special secret Santa gift and a lucky packet.

This year, Sanet surprised her most trusted helpers, Janet Rittles and Elsabe van der Merwe, by inviting them to join in the fun.

She has been part of charity events such as these for over 30 years, and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon.

“I learned from my parents and it just keeps growing and growing inside me,” she says.

Sanet is the owner and sole operator of an after school centre in Geduld, where she cares mostly for children in need.

Together with the Pink Pistols motorcycle club, she has organised a fun day in December, where she plans to feed and spoil over 1 000 needy children from the community.
