Local girl chosen as Miss SA semi-finalist

KwaThema resident is chosen as a semi-finalist for the Miss South Africa 2017 pageant to be held at Sun City in March.

Born and bred KwaThema resident Ntombikayise Msimango (21) was recently chosen as a semi-finalist for the Miss South Africa 2017 pageant to be held at Sun City in March.

Thousands of girls from across the country auditioned in September after which the judges decided to hold another bikini elimination round as they struggled to narrow the 33 girls down to only 26.

“Being chosen is such an overwhelming feeling because it is a huge privilege and something that I’ve always wanted,” she says.

For Ntombikayise making a difference in her community is a priority.

“Girls in my township look at the status quo and are taught to think in a certain way, but I want to show them that there are bigger and better things to do,” she says.

She still stays in the same house that her parents built years ago and says that she loves her township and isn’t planning on moving any time soon.

Ntombi attended Veritas College Preparatory Charter School for the duration of her schooling where she excelled academically. She was named head girl in primary school and head of discipline in high school, and was also chosen as captain of the netball, hockey and soccer teams.

Ntombi started modelling at a Springs modelling school in 2004 but dropped out after a while because of her already heavy load of extracurricular activities.

In 2014 she returned to the industry and was crowned as first princess at Miss Mamelodi Sundown and later in the year she earned the same title at the nationals.

At the Miss Eastgate Look of Fashion competition in 2015 she was again crowned first princess, and is the current Miss Varsity Cup winner at the University of Pretoria.

“They’re my biggest fans,” she says when asked about her family.

She says they are incredibly supportive and that her brother even designed T-shirts when she was announced as a finalist.

Her mother was also a pageant queen and has always promoted proper etiquette and lady-like posture and behaviour, she says.

Ntombi is currently in her final year of her BA law degree at the University of Pretoria and looks forward to starting her LLB next year.
