Christmas Drive for underprivileged children

With Christmas less than two months away, the organisers of the Christmas Drive are rolling up their sleeves.

To make this non-profit project a success, Arlette Botha and the members of the Dal Fouche CPF need the help of the community.

Suné Meadon-Bester, one of the organisers, says the project is in its ninth year.

“We are making Christmas a bit more special for underprivileged children in the Springs area.”

They hand out gift packs to the children on December 23 and also spend the evening with the children of Geduld.

“We need to cater for 2 500 children this year, therefore, we ask community members to open their hearts and donate toys for children of all ages,” says Suné.

“We cater for disabled children, orphans in children homes and every other child who joins us in the streets that evening.”

You don’t need to wrap your gift as the Dal Fouche elves will pack the gift packs two weeks before the handout takes place.

The Springs police are also on board with the handouts.

The organisers fix the broken toys, mend and wash the clothes before handing it out.

Suné says they hand out grocery parcels to families as well.

Arlette is the founder of the Christmas Drive but with the support of the Dal Fouche CPF, it is now much bigger and more children and families will receive a Christmas treat.
