The Automobile Association (AA) has given a few tips on what to check on your vehicle before the end of year rush.
Here is a checklist:
• Is the vehicle roadworthy?
• Ensure that tyres (including the spare tyre), brakes and shock absorbers are in good condition and reliable to get you there and back again.
• Check that the windscreen doesn’t have any chips or cracks (especially those that can get worse on a long journey and impair visibility), also check that windscreen wipers are working properly.
• Make sure the vehicle is mechanically sound.
• Are all the electronics on the vehicle working properly?
• See if any towing vehicles are also in a good condition and capable of making the journey (including the tyres).
• Has the car been serviced in time for the journey?
• Ensure that any documentation needed to take a car, or towing vehicle, across the border are in order and valid.
• When do the driver’s licences and vehicle licence discs expire?
