Daggafontein SAPS Heritage Day cook -off

The Daggafontein SAPS support staff celebrated Heritage Day on Friday.

The Daggafontein SAPS support staff might have celebrated Heritage Day a week late, but they certainly didn’t hold anything back to ensure a memorable day.

On Friday the staff was divided into three heritage groups namely: the Boere, the Africans and Kofifi Town.

They then had to cook a traditional meal, decorate a designated area and dress up, all while keeping with their assigned heritage theme.

Three judges were tasked to elect a winner for and award certificates to the best dressed group, the group with the best food, and for the group with the best decorated area.

In true traditional fashion the boere made a potjie served with stamp, three different homemade breads, pampoenkoekies and a tipsy tart.

The judges voted this as the best food of the day.

Team Africans cooked chicken feet, mopane worms, morogo and dumpling bread and were awarded the certificate for the best decorations.

Kofifi Town took the award for the best dressed team.

They served quarters and in keeping with their squatter camp theme even staged a dice playing area with beer crates.

“This is the first year we’ve done this but we hope to do something similar every three months,” says admin clerk Karen Smith.

Although the goal of the day was to celebrate all different heritages, it also served as a team building exercise.
