Robbers attack business owners in CBD

A Springs businessman Nasir Ahmed (32) was stabbed with a knife during a business robbery in Second Street, CBD on Wednesday.

He was in his shop at 10am, with a colleague Saliha Seydi (29) when five suspects entered the shop, one armed with a knife.

The armed suspect allegedly stabbed Ahmed in his right upper arm.

“There were about 20 people outside our shop at the time, but only five suspects entered the shop,” he says.

Seydi says when she asked them what they are doing, the suspects allegedly shouted, “In South Africa we can do what we want, this is our country.”

She claims one of the suspects took a flat piece of iron and hit her on her right wrist.

“We are not sure why they targeted our shop and what the reason behind the attack and robbery was,” she says.

The suspects allegedly took sweets, cold drink and groceries and left the shop.

Seydi says they called the police to report the incident, but when she saw a police vehicle drive past she screamed and the policeman stopped to assist.

When the Springs police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already left and they called for an ambulance.

Paramedics treated the two injured victims at the scene.

Springs police spokesman Amanda Greybe confirms a case of business robbery was opened at the police station.
