LISTEN: Duck Day visitors speak up

Families flocked to the fourth annual Duck Day Family Day, that took place next to the pond in Selcourt Enclosure, on Saturday.

This fun-filled family day featured a flea market with 70 stalls that sold goods ranging from authentic baklava to second-hand toys, as well as offering horse rides and face-painting.

The event was organised by the Duck Day committee, which was started by a group of residents in the enclosure who wanted to do something for their community.

“We wanted to do something to bring the community together,” says committee member Lisa Gunter.

The event grows every year and is open to vendors and visitors from everywhere.

Organisers had the opportunity to arrange live music entertainment for the first time this weekend.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to help a couple of people in our community to make a bit of extra cash,” says Lisa.

Proceeds of the event are used to maintain the two parks and their ponds, in addition to other maintenance within the enclosure.

Several Springs businesses also donated cash, which was used to supply portable toilets, brightly coloured tents for shade and to help pay for the electricity used.

In the past, the committee has hosted Carols by Candlelight, a Night Walk and a mountain bike race to raise additional funds, and hopes to do so again later this year.
