VLU club’s diamond celebration
VLU Rosa Rosarum morning branch members were celebrating their diamond anniversary in style at Rus 'n Bietjie Old Age Home hall on Tuesday.
The club was established in June 1956 but the founder is unknown.
Jackie Lavos, chairman of the branch, has been with the club for 11 years and says the documentation got lost throughout the years, therefore, they don’t know who the founder was.
Mariette van der Merwe is the longest surviving club member.
“She has been with their club for 30 years, but has been a member of the VLU for 50 years,” says Jackie.
VLU district chairman Miena Nel was a guest of honour at the celebrations.
Miena toasted on the club’s birthday celebrations.
“I hope the club will grow from strength to strength and that we will be able to recruit more members, especially younger members, ” says Jackie.
