Police warning: Thieves put victims into deep sleep before striking

Local police are warning residents of a new method criminals are using to commit crimes in their homes.

Police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora explains they have discovered criminals are now taking CDs and burning them outside people’s homes, close to any area where the smoke can get inside the house.

“The perpetrators burn these CDs close to outside drains, doors, windows and ventilation holes on walls of the house.

“This then produces carbon monoxide which moves into the home, causing the people inside to go into a deep sleep.

“By the time you wake in the morning, you will find that things from your home have been taken,” he says.

Ramphora says they urge residents to ensure that all their doors, ventilation holes, sink holes and windows are kept closed, especially at night.

“So far we have had three cases in Tsakane and one in Springs of the same nature, therefore people need to take extra precaution,” he says.
