Vaccine campaign for children postponed

The National Department of Health's measles and polio campaign which was due to start on September 12 has been postponed.

The campaign will now run from October 31 to November 18.

The date for the second immunisation round will be made available closer to the time.

Here is the low-down of what the campaign entails:

The department has launched this campaign to protect the health of young children, who are the most at risk for contracting these diseases.

Being part of the mass immunisation campaign, the Ekurhuleni Metro has made available all primary health care facilities in Ekurhuleni where the vaccinations will be done.

“Prevention is better than cure and we encourage parents to bring their children to be immunised irrespective of their immunisation status,” says Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the metro.
