Seven suspects empty business safe

Seven suspects overpowered security guards on duty at 12.30am at a business in Lewis Avenue, Strubenvale on Monday.

According to Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora one of the suspects was armed with a firearm and he pointed it at the guards, while the other suspects tied up the guards.

The suspects allegedly threatened to kill the guards if they didn’t keep quiet.

“The two guards were put under a truck on the premises and claim they could hear the suspects searching the office which was closeby,” says Ramphora.

He says the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe on the premises and also robbed the guards of their wedding rings, a watch and wallet containing R400 in cash.

Although the alarm didn’t go off, the guards claim they know where the suspects gained entry to the building.

Ramphora says the suspects also took a bag of house keys and sweets.

The police opened a case of business robbery.
