Selcourt water leaks fixed but tree stump is still visible

Selcourt resident Bruce Gardner recently reported two water leaks in Rezende Road, which haven't been attended to by the metro.

One of the leaks, he claims, is older than two weeks and is in the middle of the road, while the other leak emanates from a water meter on the pavement.

“This water meter has been leaking for over a month,” he says.

He saw three Ekurhuleni Metro workers and a bakkie parked next to the leak in the middle of the road on August 21, and claims the water department must have been aware of it.

Also, between the two leaks, on the pavement, is a very large tree stump which has allegedly been there since January.

“That was when council workers had to repair a broken water pipe which the tree’s roots had damaged,” he says.

He feels strongly that the relevant departments need to attend to these problems urgently

According to metro spokesman Themba Gadebe, both leaks have been repaired.

“A team of metro technicians has laid crusher run on the trench and the roads department will assist with the reinstatement of the road.

”What was perceived to be an underground water meter was actually a mainline valve,” he says

A request for the removal of the tree stump has been sent to the parks department.
